02 — SIGNAL PATH
The audio path is entirely analogue. The only digital parts are the tuning helper and the preset memory, and both can be bypassed with a jumper on the back.
We say this plainly because the word analogue gets stretched. No DSP sits between your input jack and your output jack on any module in the range — measure it if you like, the test points are marked on the board.
ANALOGUE
Discrete, matched pair, temperature compensated
ANALOGUE
Transistor ladder and OTA, no lookup tables anywhere
ANALOGUE
RC timing, voltage controlled, sub-millisecond attack
DIGITAL
A microcontroller reading pitch. Jumper JP1 removes it.
DIGITAL
Stores knob positions only. Jumper JP2 removes it.
03 — OPEN BY DEFAULT
Full schematics, board files and calibration procedures are published for every module, including discontinued ones. Repair it yourself, or send it to us at cost plus postage forever.
SCHEMATIC PDF

GERBERS AND BOM
Board files and a sourced parts list with substitutions marked
REPAIR AT COST
Parts plus postage, no labour charge, no expiry date
SPARES FOREVER
Panels, knobs and matched transistor pairs sold individually
04 — CALIBRATION
Eleven minutes with a multimeter and a tuner, four trimmers, and a printed card that walks you through it. No proprietary jig, no returning it to the factory.
00:00
Power the module in the case and leave it for three minutes. Cold trimming is why people think analogue drifts.
03:00
Play C2 and C4, adjust until the octave is exact on the tuner. Two passes, it converges.
07:00
Set the low reference against the meter at the marked test point. One turn, rarely more.
09:00
Trim the triangle apex and the pulse symmetry by ear or by scope. Write the date on the card.
05 — DEMO PATCHES
Not videos. Descriptions you can follow with cables in your hand, using modules you can see on the tiles above.
01
VX-3 · VX-5 · VX-10
Both VCO cores at 55Hz, one modulating the other through zero, into the state variable filter in notch and out to the spring tank at full dwell. Sits still for twenty minutes and never repeats.
02
VX-4 · VX-6 · VX-8
Self-oscillate the ladder, pitch it with a fast decay envelope, and shape the tail on the exponential VCA. Tune the resonance trimmer for the body you want.
03
VX-2 · VX-11 · VX-3
Sample and hold on white noise, clocked from the sequencer gate bus, into the second VCO exponential input. Attenuvert it down until it is pitch and not noise.
04
VX-7 · VX-1 · VX-5
Two function generators cycling at unrelated rates, cross-patched through the attenuverter to each other, sweeping the filter cutoff from both directions at once.
05
VX-9 · VX-8 · VX-12
Delay output back into its own input past unity, VCA in the loop to keep it from running away, cue bus so you can hear it building before it hits the mix.
06
VX-3 · VX-7 · VX-8
Single VCO into the function generator used as a lowpass gate substitute, struck by the sequencer gates. Short strikes, long strikes, one knob between them.
06 — POWER BUDGET
The whole twelve-module range draws 640mA on +12V and 310mA on -12V. Type your case into the calculator and it will tell you honestly if you are cutting it fine.
CASE
SUPPLY
VERDICT
84HP skiff, 1.4A supply
1400 / 1200mA
Six modules comfortably
104HP two-row, 2A supply
2000 / 1500mA
The full range, headroom to spare
84HP with a 1A brick
1000 / 500mA
Cutting it fine past nine modules
62HP portable, 0.6A supply
600 / 300mA
Four modules, and skip the delay
The calculator adds a twenty percent margin by default, because a supply running at its rating all evening is a supply that gets warm and starts adding hum to your VCAs.
